Original multicolor reduction woodcut print. Handprinted and hand-carved 7 color reduction woodcut print. The printed area measures 14 inches by 20 inches. This can fit an 18"x24" inch frame with no mat and have a 2-inch white paper border, or it can be beautifully matted and fit a standard size 18"x24" or a 24"x30" frame. Print is a Limited Edition of 12 that can no longer ever be made or printed again. Carving each layer and then printing that part of the image 7 separate times took me over 70+ hours to complete. To be honest it is probably much higher than that, but I don't want to think about it.
This is the 7th print in my anthropomorphic animal/human series. This series was fun to create and design. Each print is focused on finding the personality traits of each animal and then matching clothing to resemble that associated personality trait. This print is titled, A Night Out, and is a depiction of a giraffe dressed "to the Nine's". I initially thought it would be hilarious if a giraffe was wearing a bowtie. I then thought about putting 5 or 6 bow ties on him, going up his neck. Even though I thought this was comical, it did not fit what I had envisioned in my head. Once I decided to have him wearing a bowtie, I started to brainstorm some of the "fashion trends" with males in current society. It seems that almost every wedding you go to now, the grromsmen are all wearing "trendy" suspenders. From there, the piece kind of developed and progressed naturally. The giraffe is not typically considered a graceful animal, which is the reason why I wanted to dress him up. You are what you dress for. Dressing up can change ones attitude, confidence, and outlook. I wanted to present the giraffe as a subtly confident and graceful animal, which is how it is rarely described.
