King of the Vinyl

Handcarved relief print measuring 12" x 18".  The image has been carved out of battleship grey linoleum and printed onto a high-quality acid-free 140 lb (300 gsm) cold press paper.  This is a single-layer linocut print that took over 20 hours to carve.  This is printed in a limited edition of 20 prints and will never be printed again.  The imagery of a lion head in conjunction with an antique phonograph illustrates my love of music, represents my time teaching middle school art, and also is a depiction of my interest in combining unlikely imagery into a cohesive work of art.  This print fits into an 18" x 24" frame with a nice 2-inch mat around the image.  Amazing piece of artwork to display within your house, apartment, or business.

I once I had a student who called me, Mr. Lion.  When asked about why she calls me that; she explained to me that I am always yelling at the students.  I responded with, "I never yell at you all".  Her response to this statement was, "You yell at us with your eyes".  This entire interaction was a great influence in the creation of this piece.  This piece has so many different facets and components about myself, my interests, and who what I enjoy.  My hope is that this piece can ellicit a story, memory, or your own unique response to the imagery.
